My friend’s friend has never eaten an avocado.

No avocados. No guacomole. He probably hasn’t ever even grown a housplant from a toothpick-embedded avocado seed.

I once told a man that I believed everything green and edible was good for us. This was during some discussion about the health benefits of avocado. Since this conversation I have come to realize that not only is avocado good for me (oleic acid, monounsaturaded fat, vitamin K, potassium, etc.), but they are one of the tastiest foods to come across my palate of late.

I feel like Sam I Am in that I would eat them in a house, and with a mouse and in a box and with a fox. I love avocados here and there. I would eat them anywhere!

It’s funny to say this, because I have a vivid memory of my sister coming home from her Togo’s job in high school with a huge sub sandwich with avocado oozing out of its sides—a vision that grossed me out as I sat across from her at the dining table.

But in my old age I have turned over a new leaf—the avocado leaf. I dare to meet someone (beside my twin 3-year-olds who think nearly everything that does not invole cheese is gross) who does not love or just merely like avocados. What’s not to like.

In fact, I think I’m going to advocate with the California Avocado Commission that I should be its next spokeswoman.
